Foreign tourists flock to Almaty


A record number of one million tourists visited Almaty in 2018. The city’s developed infrastructure, beautiful landscapes and ski resorts attract tourists from all over the world. Half of the travelers that visited Almaty last year were from Europe, USA, Russia and Central Asia.

Almaty has transformed into a modern tourist destination that offers latest technologies and tourist facilities. For the convenience of the foreign tourists, description pointers with Braille font and QR codes are installed on popular tourist sites. Tourists also have access to complete information about the city’s sights in six languages.

Australian tourist, Philip Thomson has traveled to almost every country on the map. He said that Kazakhstan was a discovery for him. He has been to Almaty, Altai region, Turkistan and Mangystau region. Philip admits that he prefers Almaty even to the world famous Courchevel. He promises to return to Kazakhstan with his friends, where he enjoyed visiting exotic places and doing extreme sports.

The increased tourist flows to the city have become possible due to a number of measures taken for the development of the industry. In Almaty, the share of tourism and related services in the Gross Regional Product is expected to increase to 6% by 2025. According to experts, every second tourist coming to Kazakhstan visits Almaty.
