Salem readers! As it is getting warmer and we start to enjoy the outdoors more, we are going to speak about three major parks of Almaty.
These parks are located within the city of Almaty. In one of our next blog posts we will talk about national parks located outside the city in the Almaty region.
- Panfilov Park: Located in central-east Almaty, it is one of the city’s most popular hangout places. The total area of the park is 18 hectares. It is named after a group of brave Almaty soldiers, who died fighting off Nazis in WWII. One of the main attractions of the park is a memorial of the 28 soldiers, who are known as Panfilov Heroes. An eternal flame commemorating the victims of the Civil War (1917-1920) and WWII (1941-1945) is also one of the central sites of the park. The park itself is a very popular local green area within the city of Almaty. It is also conveniently located close to Green Bazaar, one of the most favorite places among tourists, and within walking distance to Zhibek Zholy metro station.
- First President’s Park: Located in the southern part of Almaty, the park can boast one of the most spectacular mountain views. Though the park is relatively new, as it was opened in July 2010, it quickly became one of the most popular places of Almaty. The total area of the park is 73 hectares. At the southern end of the park there is a viewing and seating area, where people can hide in the shade from the scorching sun.
- Almaty Central (Gorky) Park: The park is located in close proximity to Green Bazaar and Panfilov Park. It covers the area of 100 hectares and is Almaty’s largest recreational sites. It is particularly popular among families that enjoy spending Sundays with their kids riding ponies, visiting the zoo and riding boats on the lake. It is definitely a must-visit place in Almaty, where you can enjoy the good weather and spend time with friends.
If you plan to visit Almaty this spring or summer, make sure to visit these amazing parks. Not only will you have a good time there, but also you will enjoy the magnificent view of Almaty and its beautiful nature!
