DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
Day 1. Almaty – Assy Plateau – Bartogai Reservoir
We will depart from Almaty at 8:00 a.m. We will arrive at Turgen Gorge, where we will then go sightseeing at the Bear Waterfall.
The Turgen Gorge is located in the Ile-Alatau Natural Park, which is 90 km from Almaty, and it is famous for its coniferous and mixed forest, relixt fir moss, alpine and subalpine meadows, lakes, spring, hot spring, berries, medicinal plants, and waterfalls. The easiest fall to access is the Bear Waterfall, which reaches the height of 28 meters. Here, even on very hot days, the water temperature does not rise above 12 degrees Celsius, which allows the waterfall mist to be refreshing to visitors. The waterfall is named Bear Waterfall because of all the white-clawed bears that inhabit the area.
We will then transfer to Assy Plateau. We will have lunch, then go on a sightseeing tour to Observatory, Red Rocks, and rock paintings.
Assy Plateau is a sprawling plain which is located at an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountain ranges over 3000 meters. The southwest side of the valley is close off by snow-capped peaks. Along the river, there are vast forests which are made up of Tien-Shan spruces. The plateau stretches for 40 km and it is a traditional summer grazing spot since ancient times. Now, it is a pasture of national importance, boasting sites like ancient burial mounds, rock paintings (petroglyphs), and the Kazakhstan mountain observatory.
